For Christmas, I endeavoured to create an artwork for my wonderful girlfriend, Cass, using an older technique called paper tole; a process whereby an image is dissected and layered at different heights using spacers or silicone to create a greater illusion of depth.
The artwork highlights a wolverine (Cass's favourite animal) wearing Nami-inspired armour from her favourite 'League of Legends,' character, overshadowed by the comets from 'Your Name (Kimi no Na wa);' which is her favourite anime.
The background, aurora, clouds and frames were painted in acrylic - using a pin for details, and the tree branches, wolverine, leaves and armour were drawn with Touch 5 markers, metallic gel pens and fine liners. I used wood for the base and built the over-engineered "walls" using 1000gsm matte board, finally covering the artwork with a sheet of heavy acetate for protection.
