Despite my personal predisposition and fondness of AI, it is concerning to see such disregard for the artistic community, in favour of machine learning.
As a tool, AI generated art has not had adequate thought considering how its nature and widespread accessibility will impact the creative industries. That isn’t to say that AI art is inherently bad - it is phenomenal what it can achieve. However, it’s the abusive application of its service by devs and public alike, that is having damaging effects. The lack of regulation, copyright civility, watermarks, or online tools (to check for AI seeds in imagery for example), stands testament to this; blurring the boundary between human and machine.
Strict methods need to be enforced to protect our livelihoods and foster a space for coexistence where we can both flourish without antagonism.
That said, artwork commissioned by AI should never be posted as one’s own work; this is both plagiarism and malpractice; the same can be said for AI.
